Dr. Elizabeth Ann Flagler

A physician and medical thinker, Betty was committed to patient care, professional ethics, and standards in the medical community. For more than twenty-five years, her clinical practice in obstetrics and gynecology influenced the lives of literally hundreds of women and babies. She served on many committees at two principal hospitals in Calgary, Alberta and was passionately involved with medical ethics, serving as councillor and President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Alberta. She contributed to a number of provincial and national committees of the profession. Betty was awarded the YWCA Women of Distinction Award in 1997 and a life membership in the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2000.

She taught the next generation of doctors as an Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a cross appointment in the Office of Medical Bioethics at the University of Calgary.

She carried out her role as a Director of the Foundation for a 10-year period with enthusiasm, energy and wisdom until her death in 2002.
