Michel Franck

Michel Franck began his career in his family’s ready-to-wear clothing store before becoming Associate Director of Jeanine Rose Productions which has produced a series of classical music concerts on Sunday mornings that have been a part of Théàtre des Champs Elysées programming since the 1970s. Renowned for his artistic flair and his knowledge of voices, he became the Director General of the Théàtre des Champs Elysée in 2010, succeeding Dominique Meyer after his departure for the Vienna State Opera. Mr. Franck has worked to develop programming with new orchestras and performers, giving a more important place to the repertoire of the nineteenth century, including belcanto and also introducing contemporary opera. A supporter of greater collaboration between the artistic disciplines, Michel Franck uses visual artists, choreographers and video artists and pays particular attention to the drama dimension of opera, inviting theatrical directors to influence productions. The Théàtre des Champs Elysée develops programs for young theatre audiences and continues to promote young French artists. He was particularly hailed by the press for the success of Dialogues des Carmélites directed by Olivier Py in 2013 and La Clémence de Titus by Denis Podalydès in 2014, both directed by Jérémie Rhorer. He is the recipient of the awards Officer of Arts and Letters, Knight of the National Order of Merit and the Légion d’Honneur.
